Understanding Album View

What Are Albums?

Albums are a unique way for you to sort, store, and organize your photos within Mylio. When adding photos to albums, you are not duplicating the image but only referencing the original file. This means you can add the same file to many different albums without increasing the space needed for Mylio on your device.

Albums can be used in many unique ways. For instance, you can use them as temporary projects. Adding a set of photos that you want to get printed or publish online is easy to do with a combination of albums and Mylio Clipboard.

Albums can also be used to show an event that has happened multiple times. For example, some users may have an album for their birthday that is a combination of all birthday events, but choose to keep their birthdays separated in Folders to more easily find a specific birthday.

Creating and Populating Albums with Mylio Clipboard

  1. Open Mylio and navigate to Album view in the View Selector.
  2. Select the plus sign in the Quick Actions Bar to create and name a new album.
  3. Adding photos to an empty album can be done through Mylio Clipboard or by selecting a photo or set of photos and selecting Add to Album in the Actions menu.
  4. Adjusting the organization of the album can be done from the View menu in the top right of Mylio. When inside an album, selecting Manual allows you to set a custom sort order and move your photos around freely.

Albums in Albums

Albums, much like folders, can be nested into each other to make a tree of related albums. For instance, you can have an album called Holidays with different albums inside consisting of many different holiday albums.

To add an album to an album, you can drag an already created into another album to nest it. You can also use the plus sign at the bottom of the center panel within an album to make a new album within your already opened album.

Organizing Albums

The tools listed above for populating albums are also essential in keeping our albums organized. Organizing albums can be accomplished in a few different ways:

  1. Drag and Drop – Simply drag a folder onto another folder to nest one album inside of another.
  2. Mylio Clipboard – The Mylio Clipboard allows you to move albums between other albums or other views. If you would like to remove an album from within another album, simply drag the nested album to the Mylio Clipboard to hold it temporarily. You can then drag the album out of Mylio Clipboard to any location you would like.
  3. Custom Order Album – Files that are within albums can be ordered in any way you wish by setting the sort order to Custom. This can be done by opening the View menu while viewing the inside of an Album and setting the sort order to custom. You can then drag and drop your albums in any order you desire.

Removing Media From Albums

Because you are referencing a file and not working with an original file in Album view, you can safely remove media from an album without worrying about deleting the file from your computer or other Mylio devices. To remove a photo:

  1. Ensure you are in Album view.
  2. Open an album and select the images or videos that you would like to remove.
  3. Select the trash can from the Quick Actions Bar or press the Delete key on your keyboard.
  4. Mylio will remove the image(s) or video(s) from the album without deleting them from the rest of the library.

Deleting Albums

Much like removing media from an album, deleting an album will not delete the files that the album contains from Folder view. Instead, the album itself and its reference to the Original files will be removed – meaning you will not lose any data. To delete an album:

  1. Ensure you are in Album view.
  2. Select the album(s) you wish to delete.
  3. Select the trash can from the Quick Actions Bar or press the Delete key on your keyboard.
  4. Mylio will ask if you wish to delete your album and note that you will not be deleting Original files.
  5. Select Delete to confirm you wish to delete the selected album(s).
