Troubleshooting: Corrupt or Unsupported Files

In some cases, Mylio may report that images being imported or corrupt or unsupported. While this may happen for a variety of reasons, it is important to understand if the issue is Mylio related or file related, and how to ensure your images remain safe.

Corrupt Files

A corrupt file is an image, document, or another file type that is supported by Mylio but cannot be read because of an issue with the file itself. File corruption can happen for a variety of reasons, such as power failures, failed moves or saves, failed downloads, viruses or malware, or failing drives.

In cases where Mylio has detected a file is corrupted and can’t view or create a Thumbnail or Preview from the file, it is best to ensure that the file is actually unreadable outside of Mylio.

  1. Open Mylio and locate the corrupt file.
  2. Right-click on the image (Option+click on Mac) and select Show In Explorer or Show in Finder.
  3. Mylio will open the file in its original location on your computer. Double-click the file to open it.
  4. If the file is unable to be opened, the file is corrupt.

In most cases, a corrupt file can be safely deleted from your computer as no application can open it. However, you may wish to save the file for future reference or recovery at a later time. If you wish to save the corrupt file,  it is recommended that you move the file out of the folder you found it in and into a folder that Mylio is not referencing.

  Note:  Mylio is unable to help recover corrupt files.

Unsupported Files

Mylio supports a wide range of files including photos, documents, PDFs, videos, and more. And we’re constantly working to expand the types of files that can be imported into Mylio.

However, in some cases, you may import files into Mylio that cannot be read.

Unsupported files come in two types:

Unsupported Files That Mylio Can Import

Many times, Mylio can import an unsupported file and sync the unsupported file between your machines. This is especially true for RAW photos taken with newer, or much older, cameras. In these cases, Mylio will import the image but not be able to display it. The image will replicate between your machines and you can view the image outside of Mylio using File Explorer or Finder, or using a third-party application.

We strive to increase our camera support with every update. When we do add support for the unsupported file, Mylio will begin to display the image on all machines and create the needed Thumbnail and Preview automatically.

  Warning:  though unsupported files will not look like an image, it is important that you do not delete the file as this is your actual image file, it simply is not viewable by Mylio.

Unsupported Files That Mylio Cannot Import

In some cases, you may attempt to import a folder or file that is not supported by Mylio. When a file is fully not supported, the file will not be visible in Mylio and will not sync between your devices.

Furthermore, if unsupported files are within a Source Folder, Mylio may not be a 1:1 copy of your file system as we are unable to import the files within that folder.

Files that are wholly not supported by Mylio will not interfere with your Mylio experience. If the file type is later supported by Mylio the files will be imported automatically. Otherwise, the files will simply not be visible within Mylio.

  Note:  if a Source Folder is deleted from Mylio that contains items that can’t be imported, the imported content will be deleted from the File System and unsupported content will remain.
  Note:  if a folder is imported using the Copy command and “Delete Files After Import” is turned on, files that are not able to be imported will remain in their original location, not deleted.
