Device Settings

Managing the devices on your Mylio account ensures that each device you have registered is setup and behaving as expected. Knowing the settings available to the devices on your account can help you better utilize Mylio to your liking.

Opening the Device Settings

  1. Open Mylio’s Dashboard.
  2. Select the icon of the device that you wish to edit the settings of.

Using the Device Settings Window

The Device Settings dialog allows you to alter the settings for a specific device in regards to how it relates to Mylio. Below are the major components of the Device Settings menu…

  • Device NicknameThe device name can be changed by simply selecting it at the top (not pictured).
  • Device Quality – View and change what quality images are synced to your device.
  • Lost Originals – Click to view images that have thumbnails and/or previews in your library but the Original does not exist on any other device on your account. If you do not see Lost Originals listed in your Device Settings then you do not have any in your library (which is good).
  • Unsupported Files – Click to quickly find files that Mylio does not support.
  • Show Files to Sync – Displays the media that is currently waiting to sync to that device. If there is no media waiting to sync this option will not be available.
  • Source Folders – View the top-level folders in your library and where they live in this device’s filesystem.
  • Device Storage – View available free space, Mylio’s and other’s usages.
    • Minimum Free Space – Set the space threshold that Mylio is allowed to work within. Setting this number means that Mylio will stop syncing if you have less than this space available on your machine. Mylio can manage this setting for you or you can turn off “Automatically Manage” to adjust the slider yourself.
Note:  It is not possible to set Mylio’s minimum free space to be less than 1GB due to performance reasons.
  • Clear Cache Mylio’s cache will hold photos that your machine has but does not want. This generally happens after changing Sync Policies for your machine. Use this command to clear the cache.
Note:  Only devices with policies set to either Thumbnails, Previews, or Custom Sync policies will have the Clear Cache button. You can only empty the cache for a device that you are currently using.
  • Safe Delete –  Turning this on will prevent deletions made outside of Mylio from removing the catalog entry in the Mylio library and attempt to restore the deleted file from another device that has the Original.
  • Unregister this Device – Remove this device completely from Mylio. This will cause the current device to stop syncing future photos with other devices on the account. It is recommended that you ensure all photos on this device are synced to other devices before unregistering. You can also unregister a device from your account management page.

Setting a Device Quality

In its default state, Mylio is designed for you to only need to answer one question:

Do I want to store all of my original photos on this device, or do I want Mylio to automatically optimize my images for me to save space?

If you choose to store all of your Original images as well as the Thumbnails and Previews on a device, you are creating a Mylio Vault. Vaults are designed to keep your information safe by keeping a copy of all of your files. And the more Vaults you have, the safer your photos are. Vaults can be any device that has enough storage to hold your entire photo library, but popular Vaults are cloud storage providers, external hard drives, NAS devices, and desktop computers. If you choose Auto-optimized then Mylio will store the Thumbnails and/or Previews that will safely fit in the available storage on that device. Here are the available options in the Device Quality settings:

  • Simple Settings– Choose between Mylio’s Auto-optimized and Vault settings.
  • Keep documents/videos smaller than – Mylio does not make Preview quality versions of documents and videos. The Originals are either synced to your device or not.  Use the slider to set specific file size limits, All, or None.

  • Advanced Settings – Turn on Mylio’s Tap to Sync and Sync Panel features, as well as gain access to setting a Custom Device Sync Policy.
  • Show/Hide Customizations – Turn this setting on to specify which version of your photos sync to your devices with a Custom Device Sync Policy.
  • Apply Changes – Be sure to click this button to save Device Quality changes. If you make changes and leave the Device Settings before clicking Apply Changes, they will not be made.
  • Reset Device Quality – Resets all files to either Thumbnails or Auto-optimized (whichever is selected at the top when this button is clicked). This may cause some files to be cached and/or removed from a device if it becomes low on storage.
