Move Hosted NAS to New Computer

Steps for replacing a Mylio NAS host computer using the existing catalog and Support-assisted setup.

Mylio does not provide a built-in option to directly change which device acts as the host for a NAS. However, if you are replacing the computer that currently hosts your NAS, there is a process that allows your new computer to “impersonate” the old one so Mylio treats it as the same device.

Follow the steps below to prepare for this migration.

Requirements

Before beginning, ensure the following:

  • Same Operating System
The new computer must be running the same OS platform (macOS → macOS, Windows → Windows) as the original NAS host.

  • Copy of the Old Mylio Data
    You will need:

    • A full copy of your Mylio Catalog folder, and

    • A full copy of your Mylio Library folder
      from the original host computer.

  • Matching Local Username
The local user account name on the new computer must match the username used on the old computer.
This ensures that file paths remain identical and prevents errors when Mylio attempts to locate the NAS and local folders.

Next Steps

Because this is an Advanced process, to ensure Mylio correctly recognizes the new computer as the previous NAS host, the Mylio Support Team will assist you with finalizing the transition.

Please send your support details by following these steps:

  1. Open Mylio.

  2. Select the More Menu (three dots in the upper-right corner).

  3. Choose HelpContact Support.

  4. Click the blue Fill Out Webform button.
Mylio will automatically upload your logs.

  5. In the description, state that you want to migrate the NAS host from an old computer to a new computer.

A Support Specialist will review your configuration and guide you through the remaining steps.

Important Note About the Old Computer

Because the new computer will be configured to impersonate the original NAS host, the old computer cannot continue using Mylio in its current state.
If you plan to keep using Mylio on the old machine after the migration, you will need to perform a configuration reset on that device so Mylio can register it as a new, separate device.
