Troubleshooting: Viewing HEIC & HEIF in Mylio Photos (Windows)

Many cameras (particularly those on smartphones and other mobile devices like iPhones) take advantage of shooting high-efficiency file formats such as HEIC, HEIF, and HEVC. A HEIC file (high-efficiency image container), the revised version of the HEIF (high-efficiency image format), is a space-saving container that uses high-efficiency video coding (HEVC) to compress media and improve image and video quality.

When these images are added to Mylio Photos, the app uses available codecs or extensions on your device to create thumbnails and optimized images for your Mylio Photos Library.


If you have HEIC or HEIF photos or videos on your Windows computer running Mylio Photos, then the HEIF Image Extensions and the HEVC Video Extensions will need to be installed. Most recent Windows versions will include these extensions automatically. However, if you are experiencing issues with Mylio Photos generating thumbnails and optimized images for high-efficiency files, you can download and install the required extensions directly from the Microsoft store:
