Performing a Catalog Repair
Updated over 10 months ago

The catalog is a file on each device that holds information about your library, such as how many photos you have and where they are stored. If this file becomes damaged, the Mylio Photos application will not function properly, and you may receive notifications that the catalog needs to be repaired. Mylio Photos can use a catalog from one of your other devices to sync a new catalog to the device that needs to be repaired.

Repairing a Catalog on a Working Device

If the Mylio Photos application is operational on your device, please follow these steps to perform a catalog repair:

  1. Select Help in the menu bar, then choose Show Support Options on Startup.

  2. Quit and reopen Mylio Photos to display the Support Options Window.

  3. Choose the "Repair a Catalog" option.

  4. Select the option to repair the "Main Catalog" for the device you're using.

    1. If you're attempting to repair the catalog on a connected external drive, then choose the corresponding drive.

  5. Mylio Photos will check for any errors. Even if no catalog errors are found, we recommend repairing the catalog anyway.

  6. Mylio Photos will attempt to repair the computer's catalog using the catalog from your other devices, so ensure your other devices are online and running the Mylio Photos application. After the process is complete, Mylio Photos should open normally.

Repairing a Catalog on a Non-Functioning Device

If the Mylio Photos application is not operational on your device (e.g., the app will not stay open) please follow the following steps to perform a catalog repair:

    3. On mobile devices, use the appropriate swipe gesture to completely quit the app.

  2. Launch the app with Support Options open.

    1. On macOS, hold down the <option> key and launch the application.

    2. On Windows, hold down the <alt> key and launch the application.

    3. On mobile devices, press and hold the Mylio Photos icon to see special options, then choose Support Options.

  3. Mylio Photos will launch with the Support Options Window open.

  4. Choose the "Repair a Catalog" option

  5. Select "Main Catalog" to repair the catalog for the device you're using.

    1. If you're attempting to repair the catalog on a connected external drive, then choose the corresponding drive.

  6. Mylio Photos will check for any errors. Even if no catalog errors are found, we recommend repairing the catalog anyway.

  7. Mylio Photos will attempt to repair the computer's catalog using the catalog from your other devices, so ensure your other devices are online and running the Mylio Photos application. After the process is complete, Mylio Photos should open normally.
