What Is Clear Locally Imported Originals?

Clear Locally Imported Originals is a one-time option that appears in Device Sync Policies under Dashboard > Devices, but only under specific circumstances.

You’ll typically see it when:
  • You install Mylio Photos on a computer
  • You copy media into Mylio Photos
  • You do this before adding a Vault

At this stage, your original files live on the computer’s internal drive. If you choose to add a Vault later, Mylio gives you a choice about how those originals should be stored going forward.

What the Option Does

Clear Locally Imported Originals controls whether original files stay on your computer or are offloaded to a Vault.

The button may appear before a Vault is connected, but it will only take action once a Vault is available.

If you click Clear Locally Imported Originals:

  • If no Vault is connected, nothing is deleted

  • Originals remain safely on your computer

  • Mylio waits until a Vault is connected and available

Once a Vault is connected:

  • Original-quality files are stored on the Vault

  • Local disk space on the computer is freed

  • The computer keeps previews only

  • The device follows its selected sync policy (usually SpaceSaver)

If you do not click the button:

  • Original files remain on the computer

  • Local storage continues to be used

  • This overrides the selected sync policy, even if SpaceSaver is set

Why This Option Exists:

This option supports a very common setup path:

  1. Install Mylio Photos

  2. Import or copy photos

  3. Add a Vault later

Without this step, full-resolution originals may remain on the computer even after a Vault is added. Clear Locally Imported Originals lets you realign your storage so it matches your intended backup and sync strategy.
