New and Enhanced Features

  • Folder View Improvements - The enhanced Folder View in Mylio Photos can be customized to suit your organizational preferences and visual style. By default, folders are grouped into predefined Sections, such as the Mylio Photos Library, Shared Content, Social Media, Apple & Android Photos, and Devices with Linked Folders. But now you can create your own sections to organize media. We’ve also expanded the controls to manage top-level and linked folders.

  • Refined Folder Top Level Management: A refreshed UI for top-level folder navigation for better clarity and control. This includes the ability to create custom groups, add new top-level folders, and more.

  • File Counts Return: File count now restored in Folder Containers view and selected file count in Grid view.

  • Flatten View in Folder View: Easily access the Flatten View directly in Folder View for a cleaner, more streamlined browsing experience. See the contents of nested folders with the flip of a single switch.

  • Simpler Import Descriptions: Folder Import language updated for better clarity based on user feedback.

  • Device Panel Cleanup: Removed “add this folder” suggestions from Linked Folders for a cleaner Device Panel.

 

  • Cache Management Enhancements

    • Intelligently free up space: When you change the sync policy on a folder with Tap to Sync or adjust sync settings in the device panel, you’re given the choice to reclaim disk space.

    • Selective Cache Clearing: Added a new UI option for selectively clearing the cache.

    • Smarter Sync Prompts: You’ll now be prompted to clear cache when changing Tap to Sync or Device Sync Policies.

 

  • Keyword and Info Panel Enhancements - Major overhaul to the Keywords section of the Info panel.

    • Autocomplete is now available when entering keywords.

    • Keywords persist when applying color labels or ratings.

    • Updated keyword section with new pill-style UI for easier management.

    • Copy & Paste Keywords workflow improved.

 

  • Device Panel Improvements - First iteration of improvements, with more underway.

    • Storage Used visibility enhanced.

    • “Update Needed” badge now appears on devices in the Dashboard.

    • Linked Folder management is now improved making it easier to reconnect Linked folders or move them.

    • Guest Devices for family and team plans are managed in their own section for easier control.

 

  • Albums and Navigation

    • Album Panel Improvements: Added left-panel navigation support in Album View for faster switching. Easily search your entire album collection or use drag and drop to add selected images to a new album.

    • Filter albums. Just type in the field to search through the album navigation to quickly locate a precise album.

    • Export an Album. You can easily export an entire album (even with sub albums) in the Export menu explore the Folder Options choice to keep things structured and grouped on your drive when exporting.

 

  • Quick Album Upgrades - The QuickAlbum (formerly known as the Mylio Clipboard) is a powerful temporary area that allows you to gather photos from anywhere in your library and perform a variety of actions, including copying, moving, exporting, and adding to saved Albums.

    • Mylio Clipboard Rebranded: Introducing QuickAlbum, the faster way to gather, organize, save and export your favorite photos. You’ll find useful buttons for common tasks like Export, Copy, or Move for your temporary collection.

    • Keyboard Shortcuts: Save an image, album folder, etc. to the QuickAlbum instantly with Cmd+B.

    • Smarter Exports: QuickAlbum exports now automatically remove duplicates from the export list.

 

  • GeoTagging

    • Easier Tagging: Instead of having to drag images onto the map, you can simply right click or long press. Select photos and navigate in the map panel. Then just click/press to add them to the map.

 

  • Faster Facial Recognition - As you import media into Mylio Photos, each image is privately scanned on your own devices for recognizable people. This update offers a substantial improvement in accuracy and speed.

    • Faster Face Recognition: Refactored face recognition pipeline for improved speed and accuracy.

    • Performance and Bug Fixes: Numerous under the hood and customer reported issues have been fixed.

 

  • Other Improvements & Fixes

    • Changed behavior for cellular data usage. Only use data for key events like sync on demand and share, don’t constantly sync and use large amounts of bandwidth.

    • Added tooltip showing local path in Folder Name title bar.

    • Double-click/tap header bar to scroll view to top.

    • Improved Photo DeDupe & DeClutter with new Storage Panel access.

    • Easily find the QuickReview command in the Tools panel

    • Sort views with AutoRank. Uses the Photo Prioritization command to sort your view.

    • Preserved folder hierarchy when exporting containers to disk. Preserve folder or album structure on export.

    • Added scrubber to Search Results for faster navigation.

    • HDR video playback now supports down-conversion to SDR for correct color displays

    • Removed Instagram importing due to changes from Meta.

Bugs fixes, performance, usability, and user-requested improvements

This release focuses on improving overall performance and fixing various stability issues. Over 200 community-reported requests were addressed, and numerous enhancements were made, including resolving several crash issues.

 

Here are some notable usability and performance improvements:

 

Albums

  • Privacy and storage settings now correctly apply when adding photos to an album.

Apple Photos

  • Fixed an issue where some photos were incorrectly paired when Apple reused filenames (common during device upgrades).

  • A library scan and repair step has been added to fix these issues.

Calendar View

  • Improved how events are displayed when searching in Calendar view.

  • You can now easily edit cover photos for events directly from the Info Panel.

Categories

  • Fixed a bug where categories were incorrectly applied to imported media.

  • You can now set categories when importing from the Files app on iOS.

Documents

  • Preview icons for MS Office documents on macOS are now working correctly.

Dynamic Search

  • You can now drag and drop media from Finder or Explorer into a visible folder to copy it.

  • Multi-word keyword search terms are now supported.

Editing

  • Mobile editing presets now include a reset option for easier adjustments.

  • Improved how the Levels command is tracked for Undo and preset purposes, making it easier to manage edits.

Face Tagging

  • The Rescan Faces command now works faster for improved performance.

  • Added support for names with commas (e.g., "lastname, Sr.") in name fields.

  • Confirming faces now correctly removes them from the proposed list.

  • Ignored faces are still counted when using the FaceCount custom filter.

  • A new "Zoom to Face" switch has been added to the People view for easier face tagging.

  • Exiting Batch Face Tagging mode automatically occurs when switching views.

frame.io

  • Improved support for reading existing XMP sidecar files during import.

  • RAW and JPEG pairs are now bundled together during import.

  • You can now choose whether to skip importing duplicate files when using frame.io importers.

  • Increased stability when posting new versions to frame.io.

Geotagging

  • The "Location Shown" field now displays more text for easier reading.

  • Long-press (or right-click) on the map to add selected photos, even in full-screen view.

  • The map now pans dynamically based on selected geotagged photos in grid view.

Importing

  • Added a filter dialog and recent folders to the folder tree to select a destination during import.

  • Mylio Scanner now detects new images and external changes more accurately.

  • Improved support for importing from the Apple Files app on iOS.

Mylio Clipboard

  • Pressing the B key now adds selected media, albums, or folders to the Mylio Clipboard panel and opens it if it’s closed.

  • Double-clicking an item in the clipboard takes you directly to its location.

Photo DeDupe

  • You can now use Unflagged, Picked, or Rejected flags as criteria when running Photo DeDupe.

QuickFilters

  • Now supports multi-word keyword QuickFilters for more precise searching.

  • Multiple keyword filters are treated as an AND combination, refining your results.

  • Solo Mode allows only one group to be open at a time for better focus.

  • A refresh button has been added to the QuickFilters settings (gear icon) to update the list for recent media changes.

  • Fixed issues when filtering by "Unknown Camera" or "Unknown Lens Make."

  • Improved filtering for multiple file types or extensions.

QuickReview and Single Image Gestures

  • Star rating gestures now work even when the left panel is open, allowing for faster photo rating. To launch, click the More menu (...) and choose QuickReview.

Sharing

  • Mylio Photos now remembers your display preferences for folder views in the top-level share panel.

  • Added the option to include filenames when sharing via Shared Album or Shareable Link.

Slideshows

  • Fixed an issue where slideshows wouldn’t work for images inside the Apple Photos folder.

Temporary Sync Conflicts Folder

  • A temporary sync folder will appear when major sync conflicts arise between two devices.

  • Clear instructions are provided in the Info Panel to help resolve the issue.

  • Once the conflict is resolved, the folder is automatically hidden.

User Interface

  • Tab navigation works across more fields in the UI and Info Panel for smoother navigation.

  • Shift+Tab now allows you to move backward through fields.

  • Umlauts are now better supported in search and filters for more accurate results.

  • Buttons in the Info Panel have improved consistency for a more polished look.

  • Preference controls for Face Recognition and SmartTags have been improved for easier management.

  • The Mylio Clipboard is hidden from Dashboard View for a cleaner interface.

  • Linked folder counts in the Sources area of the Device Panel are now correctly calculated.

  • Tapping the top bar in Single Image View toggles information about the file, folder, or album.

  • Improved scrolling in the Info Panel allows headers to be dragged.

  • The scroll wheel direction for advancing through the filmstrip now matches the full-screen view.

Watermarks

  • Improved image watermark sizing for more accurate placement.

  • You can now save watermarks with export presets for quick reuse.

  • Watermarks are now unique to each export type, preventing accidental use of the wrong watermark.

Reminder of minimum system requirements

Mylio strives to balance security, performance, and stability when setting our minimum operating system requirements. Due to recent updates from OS manufacturers, we have increased these requirements. These new requirements were announced at the end of 2023, and are now being enforced with this release.

 

  • Windows Computers and Tablets: Windows 10 version 21H2 (64-bit) or later; Windows 11

  • Windows ARM – Surface X Pro: Windows 10 version 21H2 (64-bit) or later; Windows 11

  • Android Phones and Tablets: Android 11 or later

  • Macintosh Computers: macOS 11 or later

  • iPhone and iPad Devices: iOS 16 or later

 

While older devices can still run previous versions of Mylio Photos, this will change in upcoming updates. Our next major update, expected this winter, will require a database upgrade, which older devices will not support.

 

Please ensure your device is upgraded to a supported OS to avoid disruption. If your device can’t be updated due to manufacturer limitations, consider replacing it with a newer or refurbished model that meets the minimum requirements.

    • Filter your results using the QuickFilter tree; the "By Keyword" group now shows existing keywords alphabetically.

  • Mylio Drive Setup Improvements - there is now a dedicated button at the top of the Devices tab in the Dashboard view for quick setup.

     

  • Mylio Drive+ and SecureCloud: Enhanced Storage Options - an optional new service offering cloud storage and the ability to turn your Mylio Drive into Mylio Drive+ with the ability to store originals and be designated as a Vault.

    • SecureCloud is an optional cloud service that can be added to your Mylio Photos+ subscription to include cloud based storage options

    • SecureCloud can turn your Mylio Drive device (part of all Mylio Photos+ accounts) into Mylio Drive+ with added benefits including:

      • Broad File Support: While the standard Mylio Drive only supports optimized photos, Mylio Drive+ allows you to store all types of Mylio-supported files—photos, videos, and documents.

      • Powered by Backblaze: Mylio Drive+ is powered by Backblaze, one of the most reliable and secure hosting networks available.

      • Encryption and Security: All files synced with Mylio Drive+ are encrypted, ensuring that only devices signed into your account can access them. This means your data remains private and secure, protected from unauthorized access.

      • Precision Syncing: Mylio Drive+ offers advanced syncing options, allowing you to choose which files to store in the Cloud based on criteria like ratings, labels, stars, folders, dates, file types, sizes, or categories. This ensures that you have complete control over what is stored.

      • File Integrity: Every file written to Mylio Drive+ is verified to ensure an accurate copy is made. Only devices authorized by you can access SecureCloud storage, keeping your files safe from unauthorized access.

  • QuickFilter Panel Improvements - easier navigation with Solo Mode, keyboard controls, and other enhancements.

    • When Solo Mode is enabled, only one parent group can be open at a time, which can greatly reduce scrolling. Solo Mode is on by default but can be managed from the gear icon at the top of the QuickFilters panel.

    • Quickly close all open groups in the QuickFilter tree by pressing the \ key.

    • You can now navigate the QuickFilter panel using your keyboard. Use the arrow keys to move through groups and items and the Return key to select them.

    • The By Filetype QuickFilters now use OR logic, allowing you to combine filters. For example, you can view both Photos and Documents by stacking these QuickFilters.

  • Dynamic Search Improvements - several enhancements make finding your photos even easier.

    • Recent Searches: Quickly access your recent search history. Up to 20 of your latest searches will appear when you click in the search field.

    • Autocomplete Suggestions: As you type, suggested keywords and other options will appear, helping you find what you're looking for faster.

    • SmartTag Control: If you prefer not to include SmartTags in your search results, you can now disable them. Simply click the More menu in the Dynamic Search view to toggle SmartTags on or off.

    • Storage Panel: The Storage panel is now available in the search results view when you select a single image.

    • Keyboard Navigation: You can also use keyboard navigation to move through recent searches and autocomplete suggestions. Use the arrow keys to navigate and the Return key to select items.

  • Find in Page Improvements - interface enhancements.

    • Persistent window across all views - close it on one view, and it closes everywhere.

    • When multiple results match your search, the field now displays the match count (e.g., 1/21).

    • Select All shortcuts will select all found items or click the blue number count.

  • Categories on Import - Added the ability to add categories as part of a Copy or Move import.

  • Delete Notification enhancements - Changed the delete dialog box to make it clear when images are being deleted on all devices. To prevent accidental erasures, you’ll need to confirm all deletes. To do so, press Cmd+Return (macOS) / Ctrl+Return (Windows) or click the confirmation button.

Note: If you are positive that you want to delete an item, Shift+Delete will invoke the delete command and not ask for confirmation. Use cautiously - for advanced users.

 

  • SyncCollections and Device Sync Policy improvements - SyncCollections introduce more granular control over the Device Sync Policy setting of a specific device. SyncCollections are specific to device sync configurations and they replace the previous use of QuickCollections for this purpose.

    • Create, view, modify, or delete custom SyncCollections

    • SyncCollections allow you to choose which media sync based on combinations of one or more of the following criteria:

      • Rating

      • Label

      • Flag

      • Keyword

      • Folder

      • Date

      • File Type

      • File Extension

      • File Size

      • Category

    • You can save a Custom Sync Policy Preset to capture your own set of rules that you may want to reuse on multiple devices

    • Please review our documentation for more details on how to use these new features

  • Updated Folder Appearance - the Folder view has received a visual update.

    • The Folder Grid is updated to use a folder-like icon.

    • The counts for images and subfolders are easier to read.

    • The Tap to Sync and Tap to Categorize buttons have touch-friendly spacing as well as a contrasting background to make them easier to see and use.

    • The ghosted stack effect has been removed to boost loading performance and screen redraw.

    • You can still use Flutter to change covers - flip with a finger or select a folder and use Shift+Scroll wheel or trackpad.

    • You can still choose a single file to set as a cover; just choose Set Cover Folder from the Quick Actions menu or right-click menu.

Note: If you do not want the visual changes, you can revert to the older user interface by accessing Settings > Device Appearance and disabling the Use folder icons switch.

  • Temporary Sync Conflicts folders - In rare cases, your Mylio Photos+ devices might experience confusion about the current state of your library. This can occur when conflicting changes are made on multiple devices, such as moving the same folder to different locations on two devices. These issues typically arise when multiple users make large changes to the library or when a device has been offline for an extended period.

    • Previously, such conflicts often caused folders to temporarily appear near the top of a device’s directory, leading many users to panic or attempt to manually reorganize files during a sync—often making the problem worse. Now, these temporary changes are isolated in a special folder on each device called Temporary Sync Conflicts. This folder is normally hidden unless a sync issue needs to be resolved. It's recommended to leave this folder untouched and allow Mylio Photos+ to finish syncing your devices. Most issues should be resolved automatically. If problems persist, please contact support through the Help menu in the app.

 

Other Changes and Improvements

  • Per-Image Sync Policy: You can now change the Sync Policy for individual images using the Info panel. Just click the icon next to Sync Policy in the Info panel to adjust how the file syncs on the current device. This goes beyond a simple cache—your selection becomes part of the syncing rules and remains in effect unless you modify it.

  • Custom Spaces and QuickCollections: When creating a custom Space, you can use a QuickCollection to define which files are viewable. The menu has been updated for clarity, indicating that only Category-based QuickCollections are supported, with unsupported options clearly marked.

  • Spaces Switcher Access: The Spaces Switcher has been added to the View menu on Desktop and Laptop devices for easier access.

  • Batch Tagging and Spaces: The Batch Tagging tool for people now respects the active Space’s settings, ensuring a more consistent tagging experience.

  • Metadata Updates: Metadata fields now meet IPTC specifications, ensuring their labels are always visible.

  • Catalog Repair and Reindexing: If you need to run a catalog repair, the application will first attempt a reindex. This process is much quicker and often resolves minor errors in a device’s library.

  • Improved Stability After Sleep: Waking a device from sleep now offers better stability for reconnecting and syncing for Mylio Photos+ users.

  • Full-Screen Application Frame: Depending on your macOS keyboard, you can now press F11 or Fn (Globe) + F to enter full-screen application mode.

  • Full-Screen Image View: In single image or grid view, press Shift+F to enter or exit the full-screen image view for the selected image. The Info panel and grid position are now better preserved when exiting the full-screen view.

  • New Device Sync Policy Preset - "Everything": We’ve added a new Device Sync Policy called "Everything," designed for drives that won’t remain plugged in and running. It keeps a complete copy of your library on the device, storing files at full resolution. For additional file protection, choose the Vault preset.

 

 

Bugs fixes and user-requested improvements

Many fixes to previously reported issues, including:

  • Syncing During Updates: The "Mylio Update Available" dialog will no longer pause syncing. Previously, leaving this dialog open could unintentionally halt syncing.

  • Image Editing Presets with Levels: Custom image editing presets that use the Levels command are now stored correctly.

  • Apple Photos Library Fix: An issue that caused images from an Apple Photos library to incorrectly pair display images has been resolved.

  • Full-Screen Video Playback: Exiting full-screen video playback now correctly returns you to the grid view when the Escape key is pressed.

  • Resolved an issue that would corrupt an index in the database when a season change occurred.

  • Resolved a potential memory leak on Android devices.

  • Resolved issues with Android devices permission management.

  • Resolved a variety of localization and translation issues.

  • And many other minor bug fixes.

  • Enhanced Safe Delete Controls - This setting can now be customized for each device on your account individually.

    • Restore deleted files (default) – If an original-quality version of the file is stored on another device, Mylio Photos will attempt to restore the file to the selected device.

    • Free up space on this device – The deleted file will not be restored to the selected device, but if an original-quality file is stored on another device, it will be preserved.

    • Delete from all devices – The deleted file will not be restored, and all versions of the file will be removed from all devices.

WARNING: Safe Delete only applies to changes made in the file system and does not apply to files deleted from within the Mylio Photos application. It is always best to manage your files from within the Mylio Photos application and pay close attention to file operations such as move or delete.

 

 

Other Changes and Improvements

  • Updated Messaging if machine stops syncing - a warning banner will appear when a device stops syncing for an extended period of time.

  • Remove Visual Stack Effect - Previously there was a visual effect applied to people, folders, and albums. This effect slowed down the user interface and redraw times. The ability to use a swipe or mouse scroll to flutter through a container's contents is not affected by the change.

  • Improved Visibility of Info Panel Tabs - improved the contrast ratio of the Info panel tabs to meet accessibility standards. Choose whether to hide the Sync panel or the new Storage panel for a minimal interface (under Settings -> Device Appearance).

  • Expanded Location Fields - several additional location fields previously only available in Family History mode, were added to the Mylio Photos Info panel regardless of mode.

  • Ability to opt out of SmartTag Search - For users with very large libraries (or those who don’t like assisted organization) you can disable SmartTags from being shown in the Search results.

  • Face Tagging Improvements and fixes:

    • Retain Current Face switching views when Face Tagging. When you switch from the current person into a single image, the active person remains targeted in the full photo for tagging.

    • Keep Consistent Face Tag Counts Across Platforms. We’ve improved the consistency of the face tag counts across platforms when syncing multiple devices with Mylio Photos+. For the most accurate counts, disable the Auto-Tagging feature.

  • Improved S3 Compatibility - Certain servers had difficulty connecting to Mylio Photos. We’ve improved the compatibility of S3 servers.

Bugs fixes and user-requested improvements

Many fixes to previously reported issues, including:

  • Running a new search in Dynamic Search automatically cancels the previous one.

  • The By Date QuickFiIlters now work correctly with images with dates before 1970.

  • Camera Roll/Media Library Sync Settings – Want to stop a device from adding new media from the camera roll or system media library? You can use a switch on each device in the Device panel for iOS, Android, and macOS using iCloud Photo Library.

  • The filter bar now stays open when the QuickFilter panel is open.

  • We now support Photoshop Template (.psdt) files in Mylio Photos. These are often used for stock image templates used by designers.

  • When connecting an Apple Photos library or Android Camera roll, Mylio Photos now properly refers to the connection as a Link to help users better understand that Mylio Photos is linked to the data source and that it has not duplicated or copied existing media.

  • Choosing Manage Account Details in the app will take you directly to your Mylio Account page on the web without logging in. Here, you can adjust your username, password, and billing details. You can also remove old devices that are unused.

  • The Presets panel has the new AutoTone tool added. An issue that could cause upside-down previews is also addressed.

  • The Show As Container option is now renamed as Show as Folders. When browsing a folder of images, you can click the More menu to see all nested items in a flat view. Choose Show as Folders to see all the nested containers.

  • The Picked (P) and Rejected (X) keyboard shortcuts act as toggles. Press once to apply. Press again to remove. This works for Stars as well (1-5).

  • Upgrading to Mylio Photos+ or starting a trial no longer requires restarting the application.

  • Two Mylio Clipboard improvements. You can press Cmd+A/Ctrl+A to select all items on the Mylio Clipboard. Albums also now refresh when dragging items in from the clipboard.

For macOS users – You can upgrade Mylio to 24.0 on Catalina as the requirement is not currently enforced. However, the next upgrade will be restricted to Big Sur+ early next year.
