Troubleshooting: External SSD Connected to iPad Showing as Offline in Mylio Photos

Unlike on a Mac or PC, Mylio Photos does not automatically detect an external drive when it's connected to an iPad or iPhone. Due to iOS limitations, you need to manually connect the drive each time through the Mylio Photos Dashboard.

How to Connect an External Drive on iPad or iPhone

  1. Connect the external drive to your iPad or iPhone.
  2. Open Mylio Photos and tap the Dashboard icon.
  3. Select Devices, then tap Add Device.
  4. Choose External Drive from the Add Device dialog.
  5. Read the Add External Drive instructions, then tap Continue.
  6. Select your drive from the list and tap Open.

If the drive has been used with Mylio Photos before, no setup is required. It will appear as available in the Dashboard immediately.

If the drive is new to Mylio Photos, the app will analyze it and recommend a sync policy based on your library size and available storage. To use a different setup, tap Custom Setup and select a Sync Policy Preset.

Drive Not Appearing in the Add Device List?

Open the Files app on your iPad and check whether the drive appears there. If it doesn't show up in Files, the issue is likely with the drive itself, the cable, or the iPad's connection port — not Mylio Photos.
