Troubleshooting: Ghost Devices

If you see the same device listed twice in the Devices section, you’re likely seeing a ghost device. A ghost device appears when the Mylio Photos app is reset and then added back to your account without first being Unregistered.

When the app is reset, Mylio creates a new device identity. If the original device was not properly unregistered first, your account will show:

  • The original (now offline) device

  • The newly added version of that device

The original device will never come back online, which is why it looks like a duplicate.

How to Fix It

The only solution is to Unregister the ghost device.

Follow the steps in the Mylio Photos Manual to Unregister a Device: https://manual.mylio.com/topic/remove-devices

Once unregistered, the ghost device will be removed from your Devices list.

Important: What Happens to Media on That Device?

Before unregistering, confirm that your originals exist somewhere else (such as another device or a Vault).

If the ghost device was storing original files that do not exist anywhere else, those files may become Lost Originals after the device is removed.

In most cases, this is not an issue because:

  • The newly added version of the same device contains the same media

  • Originals are already protected by a Vault

If Lost Originals appear, you can review them and use the Photo DeDupe tool to remove unwanted duplicate copies.
